The Movie Night
"Harry! Hurry up!" I yelled at Harry, my brother. Our movie was about to start any minute! Harry was still buying his snacks.
"Stanley, be patient, I'm paying now," Harry answered. I lost my patience and went into the cinema, leaving Harry with bags of popcorn and other snacks.
It was already midnight by the time the movie ended. I noticed that Harry's tummy was bulging against his shirt. How greedy he had been!
On our way home, there were not many people in the street. Suddenly, there was a loud cry for help. It scared us out of our wits! We thought that someone might be in trouble. Curious, Harry and I hurriedly followed the sound of the cry. The sound seemed to have come from the nearby alley.
As we approached the alley, we saw a snatch thief struggling with an old lady, trying to snatch the old lady's handbag. In no time, Harry called the police for help. Instead of waiting for the police to arrive, we ran towards them. With his heavy weight, Harry pinned the snatch thief down to the ground while I helped the poor old lady up.
Looking at the burglar being squashed like a cockroach by Harry, I could not help but to giggle a little. Then, we heard the sirens of a police car.
The police handcuffed the snatch thief and pulled him into the police car. Harry and I were very proud that we had helped the old lady. In the end, the old lady, Harry and I were given a ride home in another police car.
At home, we told our parents about the incident with the snatch thief. Our parents were so proud of us for being so brave. It was the best movie night ever as the night ended with more excitement!

The Jogging Incident
The colours of the sky took a drastic change from blue to orange as the clock ticked its way into the evening.
Since it was a beautiful evening, I decided to end my day with a healthy jog at the East Coast Park. Excitedly, I put on my favourite jogging shoes and headed off to the park. When I reached my destination, I could feel the cool sea breeze blowing onto my face. I could tell that it was going to be an enjoyable jog. Motivated by the enthusiastic cyclists and other joggers, I was determined to complete my three kilometre jog. Eager to start, I began.
While jogging and enjoying the scenery, I realised that I was jogging behind an old man. He was in my way as he was jogging at a slow pace. I overtook him and turned I turned my head to look at him. It was then that I realised that he was jogging unsteadily. He seemed to be panting heavily too. Suddenly, the old man went limp and collapsed. I stopped dead in my track. My hand flew to my mouth and I gasped in horror. I was stunned at the sight of the poor old man lying helpless on the ground.
"Oh no! What has happened to him?" a pang of anxiety ran down my spine. Quickly, I ran forward to check on the old man.
His face was pallid and a colourless mask. I could hear him muttering under his breath, "Help...me...," He clenched tightly onto his chest as he gasped desperately for air. I quickly assured him gently that help was on the way and told him stay calm.
Attracted by the commotion, curious passers-by came crowding around us. One of them even stepped forward to check the old man's pulse rate. Another man fished out his hand phone and called the ambulance. A kind old lady was frantically fanning the old man with her handkercheif. I was deeply touched to see strangers coming together to help someone in need. Feeling the urgent need to help too, I jumped into action. I told the onlookers to make space, so that the old man could have some fresh air. These actions went on for a few minutes until the ambulance came.
The sirens of the ambulance blared in the distance like a beacon of hope that help was on the way. We heaved a sigh of relief when the ambulance came into sight.
"Who can tell us what had happened?" one of the paramedics inquired. I immediately volunteered the information. Meanwhile, the other paramedics sprang into action. The paramedics immediately applied first aid onto the old man. When the old man's condition had stabilised, the paramedics put him on the stretcher and off they went to the hospital in the ambulance. I was immensely relieved that the old man was in safe hands at the hospital.
After the incident, I was very impressed by the paramedics' life-saving skills as they were always calm and steady even in an emergency situation. I was inspired to be a great paramedic myself in the future.

I made my way out of the theatre after the movie. The movie was indeed horrific! I walked to the nearby bustop hurriedly, hoping to catch the last bus home.
On my way, I heard some cries in the distance. Had I imagined the sound? I refused to allow my imagination to run wild! Not after the movie. I should not scare myself senseless. The movie had been about a teenager who was walking along a lonely lane when he heard a loud cry. When he looked up, something had floated before his eyes! Could I have imagined the cries? I strained my ears to listen to every sound. There was the cry again! A chill ran down my spine. I trembled.
I glanced up and down the street. There was not a single soul around. Who or what could that be? Where was it coming from? I hesitated, should I find out or should I just walk away? Finally, I plucked up my courage. I decided to find out what the noise was. I followed the sound of the cries as my heart pounded against my chest.
To my horror, I saw a teenager lying on the side of the road! He was bleeding profusely. A million horrible thoughts flashed through my mind. What has happened to him? Is he injured? I stood rooted to the ground not knowing what to do. I just stared at the boy helplessly. It looked like the teenager had been knocked down. However, there was no vehicle in sight.
Seconds later, I regained my composure. I whipped out my mobile phone. I pressed furiously at the number ‘995’. I blurted out the situation I was in and cut the line. All I could do was to wait. The teenager was groaning in pain. I felt sorry for him but I could not do anything. I did not dare to do anything as I did not know first-aid. I waited anxiously.
After what seemed like an eternity, the wails of sirens could be heard. The paramedics immediately alighted and laid out the stretcher and whisked the teenager off to the nearby hospital. I decided to follow as well. I sat quietly in the ambulance beside the driver. I called my family and told them that I was going to the hospital and that I would explain everything when I get home.
When I arrived home in the wee hours of the morning, my parents were so glad to see me. I was so exhausted that I crashed into bed.
The next day, I went to visit the teenager. He recognised me immediately. He thanked me for saving him as he could have died from excessive blood loss. He told me that a reckless driver had knocked him down and driven off. The driver had been arrested and would be punished by law. I gave the teenager a ‘Get Well Soon’ card and left the hospital.
I was proud and happy that I had fought my fears that night and had saved a precious life.

Feedback on the area of traingle WB Pg 133
Dear all,
Maths WB Pg 133
some of you are confused as to how to name the base and the height. Please take note: If I have a right-angled triangle ABC, the base will be named AC, the height will be AB ( referring to WB Pg 133, Q1).
If it is an obtuse triangle, remember we need to extend the base in order to find the height? We do not name the extension part of the base. (refer to Question 1c, WB Pg 133)
The base will be UT, not UW.
We do not name the base as U and T.
HBL - Friday 6 April 2012
Please complete the exercise on TB Pg 135- 136, Pg 143-144 in pencil in the TB.
On sponge Pg 150 - 152 - The base and height to be written directly below the diagrams, indicating the base first.
e.g
Base = _________cm
Height = _________cm
Let's go the chat room for our new meeting.
Rules languages and singlish are not allowed- eg. shut up,, lah,....
Cyber-bully are not welcome !
Remember to log on to mconline for more dosage on the area of triangles. :))
Go to P5 Maths and look for Area of Triangles to do the tutorial and activity.
It is really important for you to be self-directed learners!

What is deemed as not so good mark range? 34 out of 40 and below
Remember, in order to secure a good grade A, you must score as many marks in Paper 1 as possible.
It is really important that when you receive your paper on Monday, you have to go through the mistakes seriously. I am getting worried for some of you.

The purpose of displaying the marks is not meant to embarrass anyone but to allow you to know where you stand in the class so that you know how much more effort you need to plough in before CA 1 next week.
The average score in the class is 27 out of 40. Taking Bryan and Amrita as benchmarkers, you count for yourself how far are you from the average score.
Those who did relatively well - Peter, Jia Li, Kyle and Pravin, continue to work and aim for full marks. Conceited and resting on your laurels will not help you achieve better grades.
Those who did not do as well, less than 27 marks, it is important for you to find out your area of weakness and make appointment with me to see you during recess should you need help.
There will be some mconline assignments for you. You have to work on them.
Those who can do well in Maths are not necessary the genius, 99% of them are really people who work hard and careful with their work. Let's continue to work together to see our fruit of labour bloom.
Mrs Mak always says : You work hard for yourself, I will work even harder for you. I teach only the BEST! Are you the BEST?
Reflect on the maxim: Winning is not everything, wanting to win is.
Do you belong to this category of people?
Love you,
Mrs Mak
